Lib Dem Lord Paddy facing cancer battle

Lord Ashdown FORMER Lib Dem leader Lord Paddy Ashdown has revealed he has a severe form of bladder cancer.

The former MP. 77, confirmed the news yesterday after being diagnosed three weeks ago.

The ex-diplomat and Royal Marine, party leader from 1988-1999, said: “I’ve fought a lot of battles in my life. This time I am lucky enough to have the magnificen­t help of our local hospital and my friends and family. That gives me great confidence.”

He said the outcome, “as always with things like this, is unpredicta­ble”.

Lib Dem leader Sir Vince Cable offered Lord Ashdown, who is being treated in Yeovil, Somerset, his “very best wishes for a speedy recovery”.
