PC BRIGADE ARE A BUNCH OF SIMPS

-

CHATTING to an Indian friend of mine this week, Vihaan, he was outraged by the latest political correctness in the States.

After 30 years on The Simpsons, there was talk that Kwik-e-mart owner Apu would be written out of the show for stereotyping the South Asian community.

Vihaan was irate that “the one per cent of the always aggrieved minority” were putting pay to one of the cartoons best-loved characters.

He said: “I and everybody I know despise this PC nonsense.” Vihaan insisted he was not in the least bit offended by Apu.

As he points outs, the character is a small business owner who started with nothing, is good to his friends, wife and children.

His quick and very dry observations on the stupidity of some of the other characters and life, in general, are pure gold.

The PC brigade miss the whole premise of The Simpsons in that the characters are all caricatures.

Homer sends up an overweight, lazy, stupid, beer guzzling white middle aged guy. Is he to go too?
