Stag peaks in WW2 tribute

- BY LOUISE WALSH

An Irishman spent his stag party hauling a bench up a mountain to commemorate his German grandfather who crash-landed during WW2.

The plan was for a quad to carry the 100kg seat to the top of the Co Kerry peak but it got bogged down and they had to use manpower instead.

Max Kyck, 37, was joined by his dad Kurt Jnr, 65, and six pals to mark the crash that sparked his Irish links on August 20, 1940.

All seven crew survived the crash and Max’s grandfather went on to wed Lili White after being interned in the Curragh.

The groom-to-be, who will marry Joanne Burke on December 7, said: “The bench will now provide a marker for all who walk and climb on Mt Brandon and I am sure they will wonder how it got there.”
