Son’s school friends are among mourners

Amanda’s coffin is carried from St Francis Xavier Church yesterday THE teenage son of Amanda Carroll told mourners at her funeral: “I believe God only takes the best from us.”

Denis, 16, addressed the tearful congregation from the pulpit at the end of a moving service at St Francis Xavier Church on Dublin’s Gardiner Street.

His 32-year-old mum was found dead at her home in Homestead Court, Quarry Road, Cabra, on October 21. She had died violently.

The brave schoolboy described her as “a great woman, a great mother and also a great friend” as his brother Cameron, five, was comforted by relatives.

He told the congregation: “I can’t describe in words. It’s amazing how much support I’ve been getting the past two weeks and I want to just say thank you very much.

“You’ve been helping me and you’ve been helping my family. You’ve also made me stronger. If no one was around me, I’d be in bits.” Denis’ classmates from O’connell School in Drumcondra formed a guard of honour as Amanda’s coffin was carried into the church by relatives, including her father William.

Her brothers Willie, Gerard and Joe and sisters Lisa, Sandra and Antoinette were also in attendance.

Fr Dermot Mansfield said Amanda’s death was “beyond words”. He described her as “a bubbly character, a great mam, everybody loved her”.

Amanda’s partner, electrician Sean Nolan, 35, of Ashington Crescent, Navan Road, has been charged with murder.
