Hayes – selected ahead of Cork’s Darragh Fitzgibbon, though the latter made the All Star team and Hayes didn’t – and the Rebels’ Mark Coleman.

David Clifford (above) is the Young Footballer of the Year after his outstanding first season with the Kerry seniors, seeing off the challenge of Dublin’s Brian Howard and Tyrone’s Michael Mckernan.

Commenting on the Dubs’ push to create history next year, Fenton said: “We’re the third team to win four and probably the greatest team of all time, Kerry, failed to do it.

“When we look to next year, why would we want to take a step back?

“It’s not why would we want to achieve this, it’s why would we want to be beaten? Why would we want to fall at this hurdle?

“There’s a hunger, a greed almost, to drive on and improve and just set new standards, hopefully, for ourselves.

“We’re aware of how special the four in a row is.

“But it’s not a case that we’re sitting down on a high stool with a couple of pints in front of us saying we’re great fellas.

“Yes, that’s done, but it’s about the next one. Hopefully that success will carry into next year.”

Meanwhile Lynch wants Limerick to take inspiration from the Dublin footballers and build a successful All-ireland winning dynasty.

John Kiely’s young guns face a difficult title defence in what will be another ultra-competitive hurling championship in 2019.

Lynch, 22, said: “You see Dublin and what they’ve done, and I’m inspired by it.

“They’ve set the standard in the football. They’re a professional outfit who keep going about their business no matter what’s thrown at them.

“We’d aspire to be like them – to be the Dublin of hurling.”
