Labour could fight election in the North
Brendan Howlin THE Labour Party is considering running candidates in local elections in the North.
Leader Brendan Howlin said he wants talks with the SDLP to see how they “could construct a slate of candidates that would allow people who want to express Labour values to have the option of voting for a candidates”.
Mr Howlin added his party had worked with the Northern nationalists “as comrades” in Europe for decades.
He said: “I think there are an awful lot of people in the SDLP who remain very loyal to Labour values.”
Mr Howlin was speaking after speculation the SDLP and Fianna Fail were in talks about a merger.
