MICHAEL CARROLL’S late goal eventually killed off the stubborn Cargin resistance in Belfast yesterday as Gaoth Dobhair booked a semi-final date with Crossmaglen Rangers.
The Donegal side were without county star Odhran Macniallais and lost Kieran Gillespie to injury within a minute but former Donegal star Kevin Cassidy was the star of the first half.
He hit a goal and three points from play in that period to put Gaoth Dobhair 1-8 to 0-5 ahead.
Cian Mulligan provided the assist for that first goal and netted the second himself to make it 2-10 to 0-6 at halftime.
They didn’t score for 18 minutes after the break as the introduction of Paul Mccann stirred Cargin and his goal helped cut the gap to two before Carroll palmed in the insurance goal.
