Paper focuses on services for women on mental health
Louise Mcsharry WOMEN’S experiences with the mental health services are due to be highlighted today.
The National Women’s Council of Ireland and St Patrick’s Mental Health Services launched the Women’s Mental Health Network.
Their findings will also be set out in the report Out Of Silence – Women’s Mental Health in their own words”.
The public are welcome to attend the event at St Patrick’s University Hospital in Dublin.
RTE 2FM presenter Louise Mcsharry and clinical psychologist Dr Clodagh Dowling will be speaking at the even.
Dr Cliona Loughnane, NWCI health co-ordinator and Louise O’leary, advocacy project manager at St Patrick’s will also address the meeting.
Orla O’connor, director of the NWCI, said: “The Out of Silence report is very timely as recent women’s healthcare scandals have shown the need to listen to women and use their experiences to inform health policies.”
The report documents – for the very first time – the specific mental health needs of women and girls in Ireland.
It also highlights the steps needed to prioritise prevention and provide accessible services in the future.
