1971 atrocity probe family in truth hope
Briege Voyle A DAUGHTER of a mother of eight killed in shootings involving the British Army expressed hope yesterday a long-awaited inquest can deliver the truth.
Briege Voyle’s mum Joan Connolly, 44, was one of 10 people fatally injured during days of clashes in West Belfast in 1971.
Fresh inquests probing what relatives refer to as the Ballymurphy Massacre will start next week.
After coroner Ms Justice Siobhan Keegan confirmed the probes would proceed as scheduled, Ms Voyle admitted to mixed feelings.
She said: “It’s very scary to be honest with you – we’ve been waiting this long for it to come.
“We think that after 47 years we are going to get some form of truth.”
