Blues duo lead list of nominees

- BY PETER RAMSEY

DUBLIN’S All-ireland winning duo Sinéad Aherne and Lyndsey Davey have been nominated for the TG4 Senior Players’ Player of the year award.

It is the third successive year Aherne has been nominated for the award, while fellow attacker Davey was also shortlisted in 2015.

Dub captain Aherne and Davey are joined in the running by Cork skipper Ciara O’sullivan, who is also still on club duty for Mourneabbey who face Galway and Connacht champions Kilkerrinclonberne in the upcoming All-ireland senior semi-final.

Tyrone captain and All-ireland final player of the match Niamh Woods is up for the Intermediate Players Player of the Year after inspiring the county to glory at that level.

Woods, who recently collected The Croke Park Player of the Month award for August, is joined on the shortlist by team-mate Gemma Begley and Meath captain Niamh O’sullivan.

Limerick’s Cathy Mee and Rebecca Delee join Louth’s Kate Flood in the mix for the Junior Players’ Player of the Year award.

The winners will be revealed at the TG4 All-star Awards Banquet at the Citywest Hotel on Saturday, December 1.
