LENO’S GUNNER BE NO.1 NOW

MORATA ON PRESSURE

- BY JOHN CROSS

BERND LENO believes he has taken a huge step forward in his battle to become Arsenal’s new No1.

Gunners boss Unai Emery made a big statement by picking 26-year-old German Leno ahead of fit-again Petr Cech, 36, against Liverpool.

It is the first time that Emery has chosen Leno when both keepers have been fit and available – and the feeling in the camp is that is a sign of things to come. Leno, a £22million signing from Bayer Leverkusen in June, said: “First of all, it gives me confidence to play in big games like Liverpool.

“But I think the coach pushes us because nobody is safe to play.

“I am proud and happy the coach decided on me and I will give my best performances, so that won’t change. I feel we could have a great season.”
