Hyde park blast suspect faces double murder quiz
HYDE PARK bomb accused John Downey has been arrested on suspicion of murdering two UDR soliders.
The 66-year-old was detained in Co Donegal yesterday in a joint operation involving gardai and the PSNI. The troopers died after a device exploded in a car they were checking in Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh, in 1972.
The EX-IRA man is expected to appear at Dublin High Court today. He had faced trial for the murders of four soldiers in the 1982 Hyde Park blasts in London but proceedings collapsed over a so-called “comfort letter”.
