Sexual health clinics in the UK had 3.3 million visits in 2017 – a record number and a 13% rise from 2013.
According to data provided by Public Health England, the number of screening tests carried out for chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis and HIV increased by 18% (from 1,513,288 in 2013 to 1,778,306 in 2017).
The Local Government Association urged the Government to reverse cuts to public health budgets that could “affect councils’ ability to meet further increases in demand”.
