Evil murder shows sick gang world
THE horrific rape and murder of Giedre Raguckaite has given an insight into the sick and seedy world of foreign gangsters in Ireland.
The 29-year-old, originally from Lithuania, was last seen alive at a house in Laytown, Co Meath, on May 29 in the company of two men.
Some six months later, the horrific events of her final hours are unfolding and gardai upgraded their investigation to a murder inquiry.
She came to Dundalk in Louth in April and had applied for a Personal Public Service number to work in Ireland.
But tragically the young woman’s life came to a grisly end, just hours after she spoke to her father for what would be the last time.
Her shocking death has put the spotlight on the plight of vulnerable immigrants who are at the mercy of violent crime gangs.
Giedre’s death has also brought the number of women allegedly killed violently in this country to seven so far this year.
Three years ago the number of women killed here in horrific circumstances appeared to be decreasing.
But last year this number sharply increased with nine deaths.
We can only hope that gardai can get justice for Giedre and the frightening number of slaughtered women in Ireland in 2017 isn’t matched this year.
