EU’S €120m fund for free public Wifi

FUNDING of €120million has been secured to introduce free internet access to public spaces across the country.

The money will be made available as part of the Wifi4eu scheme.

The European Commission has called on local authoritie­s for applicatio­ns for the scheme today.

Local authoritie­s can apply for vouchers worth €15,000 to provide free public Wifi in town centres, parks, libraries and museums.

Ireland South MEP Deirdre Clune said: “I would encourage Local Authoritie­s around Ireland to get on board with this great initiative from the EU which means more people will have access to free Wifi.”
