Pieta House bid to help kids in crisis
Brian Higgins MORE than 5,000 secondary school students will take part in a new Pieta House initiative.
The Resilience Academy is a three-stage programme offered over six weeks.
Its aim is to equip second year students with emotional tools so they won’t need the services of the crisis centre as adults.
Pieta House chief Brian Higgins said: “The Resilience Academy was designed last year to significantly reduce the number of deaths by suicide of schoolchildren in Ireland.
“There has been a 22% increase in the number of under-18s presenting to Pieta House due to suicide or self-harm in the last two years. This year to date, over 2,025 teenagers received treatment.”
