CONWAY IN PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE
ANDREW CONWAY insists he is not obsessed with becoming a better rugby player but admits that aim is constantly in his head.
It has worked for the versatile Munster back three player as he has transformed his game to become a viable option for Joe Schmidt in this World Cup year.
Conway (above) will hope for more game time against Argentina this Saturday, having started against Italy last weekend.
“Obsessed isn’t the word but it’s definitely the biggest part of my life in terms of it being the thing that I think most of,” he smiled.
“For me that’s what works, that’s what I find will get me to play within the best of my ability.
“For me, it’s being – I don’t want to say obsessed – all over everything consistently.”
The 27-year-old was capped for the first time against England in the 2017 Six Nations Championship and, injury apart, has been involved ever since.
“I was able to look at my preparation and realise that it wasn’t consistent and that was bleeding into my game,” he explained.
“It took a while to create a regime outside of the set training facilities that was actually a smart way to train - a way that was actually going to improve me. It’s just about consistently chipping away, building blocks and getting better and better.”
