ENGLAND manager Ron Greenwood was looking for a red-hot scoring formation that could take England to the World Cup finals in Spain.

He was at Ipswich running the rule over a team who could supply at least three men needed for a vital qualifier against Hungary at Wembley. Among them were Eric Gates and Town boss Bobby Robson said: ‘‘When the ball is at feet, there is not a better front man in the country.’’
