I will give Roo ’band

- BY DARREN LEWIS

HARRY KANE has revealed how Gareth Southgate consulted him and senior England players over plans to honour Wayne Rooney.

The Three Lions’ record scorer will play the final few minutes of a friendly against the US and skipper Kane said he would be happy to give Rooney the armband for the occasion.

He added: “We spoke previously about doing something for the players who have amazing milestones, amazing international careers. Me and the gaffer, and a couple of players. I think its great.”

Rooney will win his 120th cap on November 15 but the FA insists he will not be skipper in place of Kane.

The Tottenham striker added: “He deserves it. He was a great captain for us. He was the captain when I first got into the squad.”

The Wembley goodbye for a 33-year-old who quit international football last year has attracted criticism, with accusations the FA is giving away caps and focusing on Rooney (above) rather than on the next wave of rising stars.

But Kane said: “We should all appreciate what he’s done for us and given to us over a long period of his life, not just his career. A lot of dedication goes into international football.”
