€38k really is just a load of bull..
A BULL has sold for €38,000 at a cattle mart – 10 times the normal price.
Maximus from Oldcastle, Co Meath, became the most expensive animal sold in Ireland this year at Roscrea Mart in Co Tipperary last week.
New owner Bruce Goldie said: “He has a lovely temperament. He’s just so placid and easy to work with.” Mr Goldie was a judge at Roscrea Mart when he first saw Maximus and immediately spotted his potential.
He added: “His genetics are outstanding and he’s had tremendous weight gain. He has good width and great character and is exceptionally well bred.”
Mr Goldie bought the bull in syndicate with two other top Scottish cattle men Jonathan Watson and Stuart Barclay. Maximus, who weighs 725kg, is expected to have a long and illustrious breeding career ahead of him, but has yet to produce offspring.
Mr Goldie added: “He has been tested and is guaranteed fertile.
“He is too young yet but we will start him in a few months. We will each have him four months of the year and he will run with our cows. You never know, if we Maximus was bought in Co Tipperary sell the semen there could be a lot of calves.”
Maximus has enjoyed outstanding success already in his young life, winning Overall Champion at the National Limousin Show in Tullamore, Co Offaly, when he was just 10 months old.
He was bred by John and Karol Connell from Oldcastle, Co Meath, from a world champion cow.
