TRIBAL KINGS MARCHING ON
Corofin (Gal)
Clann na ngael (Ros)
4-22 THIS was Corofin at their brilliant best as Jason Leonard’s double strike and first-half goals from Colin Brady and Micheál Lundy saw them devour 14-man Clann na ngael at Dr Hyde Park.
Their blend of fast kickpassing and long hand passes saw them pick apart the Roscommon champions at their ease.
Corofin were already 2-10 to 0-3 clear when Donie Shine was black carded and Ultan Harney was sent off in first-half added-time, and it didn’t get any easier in the second period.
Leonard bagged his first goal straight after the restart and he brought his personal tally to 2-6 when he repeated the dose in the 46th minute.
There were impacts from the bench too as Dylan Canney and Darragh Silke added two
B’tubber (May) Aughawillan (Lei)
0-7 3-11 1-8 BALLINTUBBER boss Kevin Johnson says the dream of a first Connacht title is alive after victory over Aughawillan.
Reigning All-ireland champions Corofin, who beat them in the 2014 decider, stand in Ballintubber’s way.
“We had to do a professional job. We are on the right side again and we are looking forward to Corofin,” said Johnson (above). “This is Ballintubber’s second points each on a day that All-stars Ian Burke (ribs) and Daithi Burke (hurling commitments) were unavailable.
After a tight replayed Galway final against Mountbellew/moylough last weekend, Corofin boss Kevin O’brien was happy to see his side cut loose.
“It was a great performance by the lads,” said O’brien. “You have to give credit to this bunch of players, the way they keep coming.
“Sometimes mentally to get ready for these games it’s a big challenge. I have to give them massive credit for the performance today.” Connacht final since 2014. We have massive belief. If we perform we can match any team.”
Cillian O’connor scored four first half points as his team took a 0-8 to 0-5 lead at the interval. But the killer score came in the 44th minute when sub Jamesie Finnerty netted with his first touch.
