AN UP & DOWN DAY FOR CELTS

- BY IAIN MACFARLANE

CELTIC’S return to the top of the table came at a cost as Kristoffer Ajer suffered the horrors of a broken eye socket.

The Bhoys 0-0 draw at Livingston saw them return to the summit of the SPFL thanks to a far superior goal difference over Hearts.

But the positives were offset by the news about Norwegian ace Ajer.

The defender was accidentally floored in a clash of heads with Livi’s Craig Halkett and boss Brendan Rodgers said: “He’s broken his eye socket and he’s in a lot of pain at the moment.

“He will need surgery which is a shame for him.

“The medics will look after him and hopefully he can get that repaired as soon as possible.

“There was no fault on the part of the other player.”

Celtic had rattled in 21 goals in their previous five league games, but drew a blank against a dogged Livi side.

Rodgers, though, wasn’t too despondent, adding: “I thought it was a good game and credit to both teams.

“Their goalkeeper was man of the match. He made three fantastic saves and I have no complaints.

“It’s a good point here on the back of all the games we’ve had.

“So we’ll take the positives from it, of which there were a lot.

“We’re now back where we aim to be.”
