Dublin dearest city in world for Xmas buy

SINN FEIN yesterday called on the Government to tackle the soaring cost of insurance.

Senator Rose Conwaywals­h questioned Minister Michael D’arcy on the progress made over the past two years on a committee report with 72 recommenda­tions.

She said: “There needs to be more action from Government to face down the insurance industry.

“Good intentions and half-reached goals will not see people’s premiums reducing.” DUBLIN has been revealed as the most expensive city in the world to buy a real Christmas tree.

A six-footer costs an average €145.92 – €80 more expensive than London and also dearer than New York.

Research from flower delivery service Bloom and Wild found the cheapest city in which to buy is Prague at €11.

Dublin has also been named in the top 10 festive cities worldwide behind Prague, Montreal and Edinburgh. The capital is praised for its “epic pub crawl around endless cobbled streets”.

Meanwhile, even though Dublin’s official Christmas lights switching on COCA-COLA’S iconic Christmas Truck, right, will be returning to Ireland for an eighth year.

The 10-stop tour will start in Galway on Friday, November 30, ceremony has been cancelled, a new event will see 12 different locations lit up for 30 days.

Winter Lights Dublin City will see sites – including City Hall, Liberty Hall, the Civic Offices, the Mansion House and the Custom House – bathed in festive colours from sunset to 2am.

There will also be seasonal lighting at busy roads and bridges including Samuel Beckett Bridge, Millennium Bridge and Parliament Street. concluding in Dublin on Sunday, December 16.

Proceeds from sales of merchandis­e will be donated to St Vincent de Paul.
