Noel Kirwan, left, with Gerry ‘The Monk’ Hutch at funeral FEUD victim Noel “Duck Egg” Kirwan was gunned down for paying his respects at the funeral of his friend, his daughter told a court.

The 62-year-old, who had no link to criminality, was killed at his West Dublin home in 2016 after mourning Eddie Hutch.

He was seen beside Eddie’s brother Gerry “The Monk” Hutch –the key target of the Kinahan cartel.

Speaking about her father’s death, Donna Kirwan said: “It’s not the people who are killed that suffer, it’s the families who are left behind.”

She described her dad as a “grafter” and added while some of his friends chose to make money by selling drugs, he chose to work for a living.

The three-judge Special Criminal Court were also told Mr Kirwan’s son and daughter talked about ending their lives in the aftermath of the shooting.

The testimony was heard as part of Ms Kirwan’s victim impact statement read on her behalf during Jason Keating’s sentence hearing. It was claimed the accused was at the scene in St Ronans Drive, Clondalkin, and had facilitated the man who fired the shots.

A tracking device was placed under the victim’s car, which could be linked to

Keating. Mr Kirwan was sitting in his new Ford Mondeo on December 22 when he was blasted with a handgun later recovered at the scene.

He was shot to the head, right arm, chest and abdomen.

Keating, 27, from Lower Main Street, Rush, Co Dublin, admitted last month to participating in or contributing to activity intending to facilitate a criminal organisation in the murder of Mr Kirwan.

He was originally tried for murder but midway through his trial on October 18 his plea was accepted by the DPP.

Ms Kirwan said she was expecting a call from her father that day but was instead alerted he had been shot. The victim’s partner Bernadette Roe was in the passenger seat with her daughter Carolyn.

Ms Kirwan said: “I just remember screaming for somebody to help and a man who works on my floor came running towards me, he grabbed his keys and we ran to his car.

“I felt like we were in traffic for hours because everyone was out doing their Christmas shopping. I rang Carolyn on the way and said they were working on him in the ambulance.”

She added she jumped from the car at the scene and began screaming asking people to tell her dad she was there.

Ms Kirwan told the court: “Carolyn said, ‘I’m so sorry Donna he didn’t make it’. I couldn’t take in what she was saying to me. I begged the police to let me see him but they said they were sorry that they couldn’t.”

Ms Kirwan said she was carried into a neighbour’s house and told not to turn to her left as her dad was on the ground., adding: “They kept saying don’t look.”

I begged the cops to let me see him but they said they couldn’t
