Santa plea to Drew on quad gifts for kids

Heartache after Danny, 21, killed in horror attack outside New York bar

Chief Drew Harris SANTA has written to Garda chief Drew Harris to ask him to remind children not to ask for scramblers or quads this Christmas.

Saint Nicholas told him he hasn’t been so jolly since he heard about the number of youngsters involved in accidents.

He wrote: “The boys and girls of Ireland have been sending me lovely letters with their wishes.

“Some have asked me for quadbikes/scramblers!

“I’m very worried, I’ve seen how many are injured each year.”

He asked Mr Harris to pass on the message the vehicles are not suitable for children unless used in a safe environmen­t.

Santa added: “I can’t bear to see any more children hurt or sad parents.” Pub in Queens outpouring of grief and support for the family. David’s parents Malachy and Bernadette would be very well known and well-liked.

“They’d be steeped in the community and they’d be involved in everything.

“Malachy, in particular, would be involved with the developmen­t group and the tidy towns.

“He would have also been a very popular guard down through the years.”

A postmortem took place yesterday to ascertain how David died.

Councillor Seamus Butler expressed his sympathy to the victim’s family, adding the timing of the death so soon to Christmas had compounded their heartache.

He said: “It’s terrible news, it really is. To lose a son is unimaginab­le but when it happens the other side of the world, it just adds to the tragedy.”

The Kevin Bell Repatriati­on Trust is making arrangemen­ts to bring the remains of Danny and David home from the US and Australia.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is also providing consular assistance to the families of the men.
