I still don’t know how to deal with it ..I am afraid of people and violent reactions Tinder sex assault victim tells of torment in aftermath of university attack

A CALLOUS Tinder sex predator targeted a young woman in a sick attack at a university.

Twisted Patrick Nevin appeared at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court where his victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said her dream of learning English was shattered.

The 37-year-old was found guilty by a jury of sexual assault in July 2014.

Nevin met the 36-year-old student on a date via the app and drove her to the attack scene in his BMW.

He punched her in the back of the head and placed his hand inside her clothes and ripped them – she escaped and later fled the area.

The woman told Judge Cormac Quinn her life has been left devastated after the attack.

She said: “I still don’t know how to deal with it – I decided to bottle it up.

“I am afraid of people and violent reactions and I am not comfortable. I struggle to believe a man can be kind and sweet to me.

“When everything happened all my plans changed, I had to move house, I got holidays from school.

“I had to get a job. I got work as an au pair but the mother wouldn’t believe I was a victim. I then worked as a cleaner, but I worked alone with no one to speak English with. My dream to speak English was over.” She was forced to return home to Brazil after a year, gripped with trauma after the attack.

The woman said she loved Ireland and it had made her a better person but added: “I wish I could live my dream of living here.

“My hurt settled down when the jury convicted him – I was [glad] to know he could not do this to another woman – that made me feel good.”

Det Sgt Denis Ellard told the court gardai tracked Nevin down through

When he was questioned by gardai he “made no admissions”.

Nevin, of Meadowlands Court, Dun Laoghaire and Dundalk, Co Louth, has a number of previous conviction for extreme violence.

He has been convicted of two similar incidents on Tinder dates – one a rape and the other a sexual assault.

Nevin also carried out the vicious beating of a former girlfriend after she arrived home to find he had killed her two dogs.

Judge Quinn adjourned sentencing until Tuesday.
