A WOMAN who helped injured Garda Michael Devlin and dragged him to safety following a fatal twocar collision has been tracked down.

She moved the officer from the silver Audi A6 as the smoke came from its bonnet in Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, on Tuesday night.

The brave female contacted gardai yesterday after a public appeal was made for her to come forward.

A Garda spokeswoman said yesterday: “Following an appeal made this morning, a woman has made contact with An Garda Siochana in relation to the fatal traffic collision that occurred on November 28.

“Gardai wish to renew their appeal for any witnesses that may have been in the vicinity of Main Street, Castleblaney, between 11.15pm and 11.45pm on November 27.

“They are asked to contact Carrickmacross Garda station on 042 9690190, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.”

Supt Fergus Treanor, who is leading the investigation, had earlier called on the woman to contact them as she was first on the scene.

Speaking on RTE’S Morning Ireland, he said she acted very bravely and her actions are to be commended.

Supt Treanor added: “From what I can see from the footage is she acted bravely because she believed the car was on fire, there was certainly a lot of smoke coming from it.

“Her efforts to assist Gda Devlin are very much in my thoughts at this moment. She obviously involved herself in danger.”

The officer said Gda Devlin is now home and they are hoping to talk to him soon about the incident.

Supt Treanor added: “He’s recovering and is in the care of his family at the stages.” Mr Marron, 47, was killed on moment and obviously his own Tuesday night as he sat in his parked district officer is liaising with him. car. Muckno Parish Priest Canon

He said: “He had planned to take his wife and children this weekend on a special little outing so he swapped with one of his colleagues.

“So there was a series of coincidences and unforced things that happened on Tuesday evening that inspired the death.

“It’s one of the mysteries of life and death, how people can be in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Mr Marron’s funeral will take place on Saturday at 11am at St Mary’s Church in Castleblayney followed by burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. BIG PLANS Tayto Park TAYTO Park yesterday revealed plans for an “iconic” €14million steel roller coaster.

Chief Ray Coyle said it will be the same height as the 32m high Cu Chulainn but will be 400m longer.

He added it “will copper-fasten the future of Tayto Park”.

Mr Coyle said: “The new roller coaster will be two roller coasters in one and will be a first for Europe.

“If you don’t create something landmark every three of four years, your numbers will start going down and that is the road to closure.”

He added the plans for the build will be lodged with Meath County Council next week and the aim is for it to be open to the public in 2021.
