Sports Minister makes another gaffe on radio
THE Sports Minister put his foot in it again with more blunders when talking about Irish soccer live on radio.
Shane Ross was involved in yet another comedy of errors after an appearance on Newstalk yesterday.
He is infamous for making gaffes while speaking about some of Ireland’s biggest sports stars.
Talking about the FAI yesterday, he first mistook Shane Long’s goal against Germany in 2015 as Shay Given’s goal – before clarifying Given merely provided the assist. He didn’t, it was Darren Randolph.
He then went on to claim fans in general feel the FAI are doing a good job of running Irish soccer, despite numerous protests against the association and its chief John Delaney.
But his blundering didn’t end there. He wrapped up his appear- ance by congratulating Shane Kenny for landing the role as Ireland’s U21 manager this week – mistaking the former Dundalk boss’ first name which is Stephen.
Minister Ross has form when it comes to blundering on sporting matters.
After Ireland’s Grand Slam rugby victory, he referred to Rob Kearney as his brother, Dave.
In a statement in September, he called Sanita Puspure, “Dominant Puspure” after her gold medalwinning performances at the World Rowing Championships.
He also referred to Thomas Barr as Thomas Barry after his 4th place finish in the 400m
hurdles at the Rio Games.
