Family’s fears for ‘murdered’ Giedre Gardai plea after woman not seen for six months

- By AAKANKSHA SURVE

GARDAI yesterday issued a fresh appeal about a missing woman they believe was murdered.

Giedre Raguckaite, 29, has not been in contact with anyone since May.

Her disappearance has been described as “out of character” and her are family in Lithuania are “very anxious” to know what happened to her.

She was last seen with two men in Laytown in Co Meath on May 29.

Gardai believe Ms Raguckaite might have been drugged, sexually assaulted, and murdered.

Detective Inspector Martin Beggy, of Dundalk Garda station, said: “We are very concerned about Giedre. She has not made contact with anyone. This is now a murder investigation.”

While Giedre was last seen in May, she was not been reported missing until August 22.

She is described as 5ft 4ins, with green eyes and shoulder length blonde hair and of thin build.

She was last seen wearing a pink T-shirt and dark blue jeans.

Gardai and Crimestoppers are appealing for any information from the public, particularly members of the Lithuanian community.

It’s believed Giedre arrived Ireland in April to seek work.

Her last known address was in the College Heights estate in the town but she moved out on the May 23.

Gardai searched a house in Laytown early last month as a part of the investigation.

Witnesses provided gardai with crucial information on what happened in the property.

It’s believed she was drugged and carried unconscious into the property and put into an ice bath to revive her.

They claimed she was taken from the bath and placed on a bed, where she was reportedly raped.

It’s believed two men then took her from the bungalow in a stolen Toyota Land Cruiser and ditched her body.

It’s not known if she was killed in the house or just before her body was dumped.

Mr Beggy added: “Even the smallest piece of information, which may seem insignificant, might help with the investigation.

“If you prefer to give the information without identifying themselves, call Crimestoppers on 1800 25 00 25.” in
