Kind-hearted guests rescue restaurant owner as 14 diners cancel at last minute
KIND-HEARTED guests saved the day for a restaurant after a group of 14 cancelled at the last minute.
Gaz Smith of Michael’s in Dublin’s Mount Merrion said on Twitter the axed booking was a “disaster”.
He posted: “Lads, a 14 no show, I feel sick, absolute disaster.
“Working so hard to make the specials and turned away so many guests who would have turned up. Gutted.”
However, the small restaurant owner was stunned when people got in contact and said they would fill the empty seats last Friday night.
One person even emailed from Scotland offering to make a donation – despite the fact they would not be booking a table.
Mr Smith added: “Phone hopped. Michael’s, and right, owner Gaz Smith Filled the seats. Twitter friends you. You saved the day.
“I’m not going to dwell on no-shows tonight, not after your support, and look at this email, what a lovely lovely gesture.”
As a result of the ordeal Gaz said he will have to start thinking about taking deposits in the I love
future. He added: “I naively, always thought that asking for deposits goes against the grain of hospitality and sets the wrong tone of somebody enjoying a night out.
“But we’re left with no choice trend of no-shows continue.
“Losing half of a Friday night affect the entire month’s margins.
“We were very lucky and appreciative to have pulled it back.
“But we will have to look into future reservation deposits for groups.
“Please, please, please think twice before booking places and give notice of changes in numbers/if you can’t make it. We depend on you.” if this will
