Abducted girl rescued at airport

Man arrested before flight to London

- BY JILLY BEATTIE

THE PSNI foiled the suspected abduction of a child and arrested a man as the pair left Belfast for London.

A police ports intelligence team helped find the girl and the adult as they were making their way to England.

A PSNI spokesman said: “C3 Ports Intelligence Unit assisted in the locating and arrest of a male for child abduction of a juvenile female. Both were travelling from Belfast to London for an onward journey to Europe. Great work between PSNI Intel and District colleagues.”

An 18-year-old appeared at Lisburn Magistrates Court on Saturday charged with child abduction.

As is normal procedure all charges will be reviewed by the PPS. PSNI C3 Ports Examining Officers regularly assist in highrisk missing person inquiries. Their colleagues in C3 Ports Intelligence Unit also liaise with internal and external partners to help locate vulnerable persons.

Among other policing concerns, they deal with victims of human trafficking who may have travelled or attempted to travel into or out of Northern Ireland.

The PSNI has a specialist Small Ports Unit which polices all air strips, flying clubs, harbours, marinas, yacht clubs, estuaries, boat yards and slipways.

A spokesman said: “There is no one list of things that will deem behaviour at a sea port, airport or airfield to be unusual or suspicious. If you think something is unusual or suspicious, please report it.”
