JUAN FOR THE RECORD BOOKS

- BY DAVID MCDONNELL

JUAN MATA notched his

50th Premier League goal and assist in Manchester United’s first top flight win for over a month.

And after reaching the milestones, he said the supporters deserved the emphatic win over Fulham for the patience they have shown with Jose Mourinho’s underperforming side.

“It was what we needed,” said Mata (above).

“A good start, good goals, creating a lot of chances and making the fans excited about our game, about the performance.

“We know we’re not in the position we want to be in so every game, we go onto the pitch and we think about giving everything for the fans and giving a performance like this.

“To be 3-0 up at half-time was a pretty good performance and we need more of that, the fans need more of that, so we’ll try to do it more often from now until the end of the season.

“It was a very complete performance. It was a shame we couldn’t keep a clean sheet, but it was a very good performance, a performance I think the fans have been waiting for, and we know we have to do this more often.”

Of his half centuries of goals and assists, the 30-year-old Spaniard added: “When I came to the Premier League a few years ago I was very excited and very motivated and I’m enjoying it so much.

“I’m lucky to have been able to score and assist that many goals, but I’m still hungry for more.

“I want more goals, I want more assists, more enjoyment on the pitch, so hopefully I can do more.”
