Poirot & the time-travel tune mystery

- BY PETER DYKE

John Malkovich FANS of Hercule Poirot will have more than one mystery to puzzle over in the BBC’S Christmas whodunnit.

The ABC Murders, with John Malkovich as Agatha Christie’s Belgian detective, is set in 1933.

Yet in one scene prostitute Lily Marbury, played by Anya Chalotra, whistles Somewhere Over The Rainbow – a song not released until 1939.

So how could Lily know a tune that did not exist?

Director Alex Gabassi admitted it was a simple blunder.

He said: “Anya chose to do that by herself and then it felt right. I tried to look for other songs but we couldn’t get the permission for them. This one we could.” The Youtuber has a close friendship with Aussie partner Dianne Buswell, who has stayed over at his place – to maximise training hours, naturally.

Joe says: “My Strictly experience, without sounding too naff, has been life-changing. Dianne has such a great sense of humour, it’s what made the show so special.

“I feel I’ve put everything into this.

It has changed my mindset, my work ethic. I’ve come on a massive journey.”

Joe made good on his vow to dye his hair to match Dianne if they got to the final and is thrilled because many Strictly viewers had no idea who he was.

He says: “I thought ‘Give it a chance.’ And it has gone down a storm, I get stopped more out and CLOSE Joe bonds with partner Dianne The ex-pussycat Doll admits it was tough to end up in the dance-off for the third week running last weekend.

“The first two times was a bit of a bummer but then it’s a new week and you get focused,” she says.

“The third time I looked at Pash and was like ‘OK, shall we give them a little show?’ We had to battle to get to the final but I’m so grateful. I can’t wait to get out there and enjoy it.”

The hardest aspect has been the “emotional rollercoaster”. She says: “You start doubting yourself – how’s this all going to come together on Saturday? I thought it would be physically challenging but the mental strain is like whoooooh!”

Ashley Roberts with pro partner Kovalev Despite being part of 90s dance pop group Steps, the singer admits she had “no idea it was going to be this hard”.

Faye says she was shocked by how punishing the training regime becomes.

“You just don’t realise how much goes into it. The craft of it, how much your body goes through to get those performances at the end of the week.

“And the emotional ride as well – you put yourself under so much pressure for the live show. The results show is horrendous – really scary.”

But Faye never dreamed she would be asked to join the show’s line-up.

“Doing Strictly, being an over-40s working mum, was just one of those things I thought I’ll never be able to experience.

“It has just been mind-blowing. I think

I’m gonna look back on about now by the older generation.” He is thrilled the youngsters who enjoy his Youtube channels’ pranks and games have enjoyed it too. “I’ve had positive messages, especially younger guys saying, ‘I’d never think about dance but you’re having so much fun. You’ve made it cool’.” Another plus for skinny Joe is that it has beefed him up. He says: “I was having an ice bath and I was like, ‘Oh my word, I’ve actually got calves’. Dianne, 29, who will dance with Joe on the Strictly tour, has loved her time with him and says: “This will be something I’ll remember for ever. He puts 1000% in.

“I couldn’t have picked a better partner.” says she could not have done it without Russian partner Pasha Kovalev. “Being on Strictly has been an adventure – I couldn’t have made it through without Pash. He’s been an amazing partner and friend . He has taught me with lots of patience. “Strictly will always have a special place in my heart and it’s gonna be weird not to be in this world.”

She plans to get back on stage next year and says: “The show has lit a fire. I forgot how much I love performance.” Pasha applauds how Ashley has bounced back from criticism for having too much dance expertise. He says: “I have to take my hat off because she’s coming back not only motivated but more positive, re-energised, focused.” Strictly with such pride.” However, she has struggled with more injuries than most.

“I don’t know if it’s because I’m particularly clumsy or I bruise like a peach. I just shred my body and I’m not getting any younger.”

She is now keen to get back to musical theatre but has no plans to keep dancing at this level.

“To actually do 12 hours of dancing a day is not only crazy but impossible to keep up. We all need to sleep!”

Her partner Giovanni Pernice says he was thrilled to be paired with Faye, who now lives in South Tyneside.

“She has put 100% into this and has left her family to come into London, that’s a lot. “We’re delivering really amazing dances.” Faye and Giovanni
