ARMED GARDAI SENT TO GANG FEUD TOWN

ERU patrol Drogheda after threats

ARMED cops have been drafted in to police a town as feuding gangs threaten to kill gardai.

The Emergency Response Unit is backing up local officers in Drogheda, Co Louth, as they keep a lid on the simmering violence.

But sources have revealed the ERU is spread thin due to other commitment­s and can only send one patrol car.

A feud between two warring drug gangs and centred around the Moneymore and Cement Road areas has seen kidnapping­s, shootings, petrol bomb attacks and dozens of assaults.

Last week it emerged threats had been made against two officers.

A source said: “The Armed Support Unit and ERU are now completely flat out working on operations and patrols.

“The Drogheda problem is there is a very credible and real threat against two gardai. The ERU are in the town and the ASU could possibly be sent to augment THE Duchess of Sussex bumps into TV star Richard O’sullivan as she visits a nursing home.

Pregnant Meghan, 37, met the star of 70s hit Man About The House at the Royal Variety Charity’s site in Twickenham, South West London.

The former Suits actress asked Richard, 74, if he missed acting and he said “No” before laughing with her. Meghan also them but other feud threats have now gone so bad they must stay in Dublin.

“Members are anxious to help the gardai and would be more than willing to lend a hand.

“One issue is a single ERU car does not permit tactical car stops but they could with ASU assistance. That will have to be examined. They can send more units to the town for specific operations.”

The ERU is stretched due to its sang carols with residents at Brinsworth House and helped create a Christmas collage.

The conversati­on then turned to her baby as she sat down with former West End actress Josephine Gordon.

Meghan told the 87-year-old: “I’m feeling very pregnant.”

And when Josephine asked how she was feeling, the Duchess replied: “Very good.” commitment to dozens of secret operations in which they are involved.

A source said: “They are doing a lot at present, they are the specialist unit that comes in when things are at their most dangerous.

“They are working on operations at all times and waiting to strike against armed incidents. Only the operators themselves know what they are doing.

“They are also tasked with protecting the Commission­er which is an aroundthe-clock post, such is the threat against him.”
