Cops up patrols amid cartel threat
GARDAI have increased armed patrols amid mounting intelligence the Kinahan gang are set to relaunch their murder campaign.
There had been a cut back in this costly monitoring in Dublin but now it has emerged Armed Support Unit have again upped their cover.
One key move has seen the Store Street Garda District employ two armed cars in the general Ballybough area.
A source said: “The threat is at an all-time high as there are serious fears the Kinahan Organised Crime Group are about to start murders again.
“One key location for this intelligence is the Champion’s Avenue area.
“A recent pipe bomb attack on innocent Melissa Hutch has shown the dangerous nature of the threat.
“Significant threats have been made and there is strong intelligence the KOCG are getting ready to strike.”
As revealed by the Irish Mirror, the Emergency
Response Unit are stretched thin as they deal with a number of threats – particularly in the Drogheda area of Co Louth.
There are also threats to Hutch family members and associates living outside of the capital. The KOCG had sent gunmen to kill rivals abroad in countries including Turkey and Spain.
In addition, there have been attempts on the lives of the Hutch’s in Co Wexford where family members have bought a number of houses.
This has seen local ASU units also being deployed on patrols to protect those locations.
The source added: “The gardai at the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau have had huge successes against Kinahan murder teams, arresting a number of them allegedly about to commit murders.
“This has caused problems for the gang getting people willing to carry out strikes. There has been easing off, but Daniel Kinahan wants this campaign to continue.
