Mystery punter nets €2.7m jackpot days before Xmas

- BY EDEL HUGHES

A MYSTERY Lotto punter will have a merry little Christmas after winning the €2.7million jackpot.

The lucky player, from Co Limerick, landed the life-changing prize in Wednesday night’s draw.

Lotto bosses are now trying to track down the winner in time for Christmas.

A spokesperson said: “We are appealing to players to check their tickets and if you are the lucky holder of this valuable piece of paper contact us at National Lottery HQ as soon as possible and we will guide you through the games process.”

The punter will be able to splash out on luxury festive presents after predicting the numbers 1, 5, 19, 24, 27, 42 and the bonus 44.

The ticket was sold last Saturday in Twohig’s Supervalu at the Arena Service Station in Church Street, Askeaton.

Yesterday shop manager Arthur Rogaczewski said there was massive excitement in the small town as people learned of the win.

He added: “This is unbelievable news. What a way for one of our customers to start their Christmas. There is huge speculation as to who the winner might be we are really hoping it is a local.

“As the town is now by-passed the chances are it is a local rather than someone passing through.”

The Polish man, who has managed the store for six years, added the prize is a huge boost for the town and store. Mr Rogaczewski said: “We have between 50 and 60 staff and this is giving us the perfect buzz in the lead-up to Christmas.” National Lottery chief Dermot Griffin, who was in Twohig’s Supervalu to congratulate employees, added: “We are absolutely delighted for Limerick with its second jackpot win of 2018 and what a perfect time of the year for your numbers to come up.”

In June, a local punter pocketed €4,325,656 from a ticket bought in Caherdavin Stores.

The latest lucky winner is the 18th Lotto millionaire of this year.
