Toffees’ Mina can make a major impact
YERRY MINA has promised the best is yet to come after writing a bit of Everton history.
The £35million defender has had a tough time at Goodison since his move from Barcelona in the summer, struggling to recover from a broken foot at the World Cup, and then swiftly losing his place when he finally appeared.
The Colombia international had a nightmare at Manchester City a week ago, and was axed by boss Marco Silva seven games into his Blues career. But following the 6-2 thrashing by Spurs he returned to the team to play Burnley . . and scored the Blues’ 7,000th goal in top flight football, the first team in Europe’s big five leagues to do so.
Now he wants to build on that landmark to make the centre-back spot his own. “I’m so proud of such a significant goal for the club,” said Mina (celebrating below). “It shows what I knew when I came here, that this is an important club with a very big history, and I want to be part of that. “Of course I am happy to score, but it’s most important that it contributed to an important win. We needed to show a performance after being hurt by the Tottenham result, and it was really good.”
Mina believes he and his new team-mates are finally gelling.
“It was a really good sign we played the game on the front foot, but even better we found a togetherness that allowed us to play the football we want,” he said.
