Garner 10 pen, 34 MIKE VAN DER HOORN admitted Graham Potter’s tactical horror show left Swansea confused, but insisted the Liberty Stadium squad have full faith in their manager.

Potter started with a surprise 3-4-1-2 formation and saw his team booed off at the break, with Wigan holding a two-goal lead.

Swansea rallied to earn a point as they changed to a more familiar system for the second period and captain Van der Hoorn (above) grabbed a late leveller.

He said: “There was a bit of confusion but you still have to win your battles and we didn’t do that in the first half. It was the worst half of football I’ve seen in my time at the Liberty.

“The manager apologised. He said he got it wrong but that can happen. As players we make mistakes and it can happen as a manager too. Of course we have full faith in Graham.

“He knew to change the shape and we reacted well in the second half to get a point.”

Wigan striker Joe Garner score twice to give the viitors a comfortable half-time lead.

Swansea improved after the half-time reshuffle and got back into it when Matt Grimes’s corner was bundled into his own net by Wigan captain Dan Burn. The comeback was complete when Van der Hoorn volleyed home another set-piece.

Wigan striker Garner said: “At 2-0 up we should probably see the game out but Swansea changed their formation. It’s still a point away from home and we can go into the Sheffield United game (tomorrow) with confidence.”
