RRYKANE reignite Spurs’ title challenge

-

break when Kane fed Sissoko on the right before Son found Eriksen.

He was closed down by Bruno Manga and Harry Arter, but created space with a clever drag back to wrong-foot his opponents and hit a low, rightfoot shot into the bottom corner for his sixth goal this term.

The contest was over by the 26th minute when Son made it 3-0. He was released into the box by Kane after a driving run forward by Sissoko.

Son then beat Morrison to despatch a low right-foot shot into the far corner for his 11th goal this term.

After the break, Spurs (Hugo Lloris and Trippier foil City’s Morrison, right) might have extended their lead but Kane shot over and had other shots blocked.

Son had a shot on the break denied by Sol Bamba and keeper Neil Etheridge. Sissoko was still running hard and pinging crossfield passes in the final minutes as he also charged forward before shooting over.

But Spurs never had to hit top gear after the break as Cardiff seemed content to avoid further embarrassment and a major hit to their goal difference.

There was more than enough in this display to suggest Spurs should have high hopes for 2019 if they maintain such clinical, ruthless standards.

Promoted Cardiff, who host Huddersfield next here in the top flight, are openly aiming just for 17th in their own battle.

It is likely to go to the wire but with some shrewd additions, they too could be capable of achieving their ambitions.
