I want to stay on fire in 2019

LARMOUR TARGETING EVEN GREATER SUCCESS

- BY MICHAEL SCULLY

JORDAN LARMOUR is swotting hard to make 2019 an even better year than his 2018.

Less than a year ago the 21-year-old’s sights were set on establishing himself in the Leinster A side so to say his rise has been rapid is an understatement.

Since then he played his part in Ireland’s Grand Slam triumph, the Australia tour success and the victory over the All Blacks.

At club level he won the domestic and European double with Leinster.

But Larmour insisted yesterday: “I want to keep growing as a player and getting better, honing some skills and be a student of the game.

“I’ve started watching a lot more rugby, trying to learn a lot more and see why teams play a certain way. I like practicing a whole array of skills to get them better.

“I need to work on parts of my game but if I was to pick out a few I would say my kicking and high ball catching are two areas I can bring up. They have got better but I can get better again.

“And then as a collective, as a team, our goals at Leinster haven’t really changed – to get better and to win trophies. Hopefully we can win the next few big games coming up.”

Rob Kearney could make his Blues return against Ulster at the RDS on Saturday after a dead leg kept him sidelined for a good chunk of December.

But Larmour will hope for more involvement after the disappointing loss at Munster. “It was an extremely tough game, we knew that going down – the crowd, the noise, it’s unbelievable down there,” Larmour said.

“The environment is pretty hostile, fans shouting abuse at you. We were pleased with some aspects but in key moments we let ourselves down.

“In any review you have to be honest. You can’t shy away from the fact that we lost and why we did. Discipline, penalties, just gives them belief into the game.”

James Lowe faces a disciplinary panel via video link today after his red card on Saturday but the defeat will not t take the shine off a special breakthrough year for Larmour.

“I haven’t really looked back on it because it’s just so busy and it hasn’t really stopped,” he said.

“It seems so long ago now, playing Australia, New Zealand, England – but to be involved in those games for the two teams, unbelievable.

“I just want to go out and win trophies and to be involved in big games. So last year was a pretty special year but hopefully this one can be even better.”
