CONAN: THIS IS BIGGEST TEST

Leinster v Toulouse Pool 1 RDS, Sat 1pm

- BY MICHAEL SCULLY

JACK CONAN claims facing Toulouse is a tougher test than any Leinster encountered in their Champions Cup winning season.

The Blues lost by a point at the Stade Ernest Wallon in October in round two and trail the resurgent Red and Blacks by two points in Pool 1 with two rounds to go.

Toulouse were fortunate to win courtesy of an intercept try but are unbeaten in 12 games and will possess match-winning threats all over the RDS pitch on Saturday.

Back row Conan said: “The first time we played them we spoke about their culture and history, everything they’ve achieved and just how much it would mean to them to win at home.

“They obviously showed that on the day. We’ve been trying to speak of that again and it has been building in everyone’s minds again since that loss away.

“We know the opportunity that exists and can’t let it pass us by again. Having said that, they’re a better team now since we last

played them. They have threats all across the park, some fantastic ball players, some electric talent. It really is our biggest test in Europe to date. Even last year as well.

“It’s great we have them at home and we are excited. Big players rise to these big occasions. People are excited about the week ahead and what needs to be done.

“There’s a tension around the place and an excitement about how much hard work is going to be required to get the win. It’s going to be a great week.”

The Ireland international is convinced it will require Leinster at their best to beat Toulouse ahead of their last round trip to Wasps next week.

Part of his personal focus will be on dealing with former All Black Jerome Kaino, who did not feature in the first meeting.

“He’s an incredible athlete,” said Dubliner Conan of the back row legend. “He’s 35 now, I’m 26 and if I got to that age playing at the to level it would be a miracle. It’s going to be a massive test, I’m looking forward to going up against him.”
