The Odoi of reckoning is near for Chelsea
HE nearly went out with a bang after Chelsea threw him into the first-team line-up again.
The horse has not only bolted, however, it is disappearing over the horizon. German giants Bayern Munich beckon.
Alarm bells are understandably ringing at Stamford Bridge over Callum Hudson-odoi. It is not a good look to be selling your promising winger to a European rival. The trouble is, Chelsea can’t afford to turn down a package worth £35million for a youngster with just 18 months left on his contract.
So even when Maurizio Sarri decided it was time for a change in the 62nd minute at Wembley last night, he withdrew experienced Willian instead of Hudson-odoi. Orders are orders, you see.
Hudson-odoi will light up the Bundeliga for sure.
He is well aware that he has a great chance of emulating the other starlets who quit the Premier League, such as Jadon Sancho at Dortmund and Reiss Nelson at Hoffenheim.
Chelsea will know full well that they had their chances to tie him down. They’ll be promising him privately that they’ll change and that this time he really will get the run of appearances he has craved for so long.
But he didn’t even get to start a Europa League game until the end of November.
Now Bayern are set to get their man. Chelsea are merely delaying the inevitable.
