Lose some weight for Neven’s sake..
TV chef Neven Maguire has revealed his doctor has warned him he needs to drop the extra pounds.
The celebrity cook confessed he struggles to keep fit and healthy, having previously hired a personal trainer and set up a gym in his home to help him slim down.
Opening up about new year resolutions, the 44-year-old from Co Cavan said he needs to “listen to his doctor”.
Neven said: “For me, it’s the same old broken record of trying to lose weight and staying fit and healthy.
“You need consistency with the training and the diet and that is something I struggle with, but I do believe I’m getting there.”
Speaking in this week’s RTE Guide, he told how his love of food was inspired by his late mum Vera who passed away in 2012 after a battle with lung cancer.
She was the head of their family restaurant Macnean House while Neven was growing up.
The RTE star, who now runs the Blacklion restaurant, said his mum encouraged him to follow his culinary dreams.
He added: “Mum knew from age 12 I wanted to be a chef, that I knew it would be my career and my life.
“She set a great example with the hours she worked in the restaurant. She was an incredible hard-working woman who gave me such great advice down the years.
“When I left school after my Junior Cert, she advised me to go to Fermanagh College. She never said I had to do my Inter Cert or Leaving Cert.
“She knew what I wanted and supported and guided me all the way.”
Neven also gushed about wife Amelda who he married 12 years ago. The couple welcomed twins Lucia and Connor in 2012.
The chef said he and the Fermanagh woman “clicked instantly” when they got talking in a Galway nightclub 18 years ago.
He added: “For our first date we visited the Cliffs of Moher. Our first meal was at Bang Cafe in Dublin.
“Now I always joke food and love.”
