RYAN AIRS HIS VIEW ON HOW TO BEAT IRISH
RYAN WILSON reckons Scotland will have to copy England by “tackling like crazy” against Ireland.
The Scots aim to inflict another does of Six Nations misery on the champions at Murrayfield on Saturday.
And breakaway star Wilson made no apologies for insisting that they must follow the blueprint laid down by the Auld Enemy in Dublin.
The Glasgow tough guy declared: “England were so dominant – they played really smartly.
“Their defence was absolutely crazy – and we will be looking to do the same.
“We will have to be incredibly physical when we don’t have the ball.
“And we have to be clinical when we do have it – just as England were.”
Wilson added: “Their real smartness came when they put the ball behind the Irish guys and then pressured them so hard.
“Being at home again will be a massive deal for us and we have to make sure we take advantage of that.”
Wilson stressed that events in Dublin “haven’t turned Ireland into a bad team”.
He stated: “They’re still going to come over to Murrayfield as one of the top two nations in the world at the moment.
“They’ll still be coming here with all confidence and with determination to right some wrongs.
“We are all massively excited for the challenge.
“Certainly, they’ll be looking to right some wrongs, but we’ve got a few things we want to work on as well, so we’re excited for this one.”
Wilson admits the absence of CJ
Stander from the
Irish ranks can only be of benefit to the Scots.
He said:
“Stander is one of Ireland’s main ball carriers
– their go-to man in the back row.
“He will be a big loss to them.”
Wilson tasted victory over the Irish two seasons ago.
He declared: “We have looked at some aspects of that win and how we approached it.
“So yes, there will be little bits we can harp back to.
“We also performed well against them in Dublin – apart from the interceptions!
“The Murrayfield effect will also play a part.
“It’s something we talk about in that changingroom, how we’re representing our country and how there is the need to do something for the fans who sell out that stadium over and over again now.
“We want do ourselves proud – and make them proud.”
