Liam’s not racist... his action was

-

LIAM Neeson’s career is in danger such is the ferocious nature of public discourse.

He has a huge platform as one of the world’s most famous actors and his greatest audience is in the racially-tense US.

So this week, when he told the world in an interview that he once hunted for a random black man to beat to death over the rape of a friend, all hell broke loose.

What Neeson said was disgraceful and ultimately it didn’t make much sense.

But his biggest mistake was that he believed people would not be upset.

We have all harboured rage and anger after a wrong was perpetrated against us – it is a human emotion we all possess, that hours later we are embarrassed by.

The idea that you would attack a random person because of the criminal antics of someone from that race is beyond idiotic.

But the belief that Neeson is a racist does not bear fruit.

He is involved in charities and has worked hard to tell the story of his own community’s struggle with violent extremism.

We can only assume he was attempting to make an informed observation on the nature of vengeance.

All he succeeded in doing was make people feel uncomfortable and he no doubt wonders today if he could have said it better.
