Hero cop pulls baby and parents from crash car

A HEROIC garda has been commended for his bravery after he saved the lives of a couple and their young baby just minutes before their overturned car burst into flames.

Garda Declan Fawl, of Newmarketon-fergus station in Co Clare, risked his life to save the family after the single-vehicle crash in Ballycar yesterday.

He was the first to arrive at the scene at around 2pm where he found the car on its roof with smoke coming from the engine.

A Garda spokesman said: “He helped all three from the car through a rear door shortly before it went on fire.

“Fortunately all three escaped injured.

“We commend Garda Fawl for his bravery and quick actions and we are thankful that no one was injured.”
