120,000 risk penalties on tyre safety

AROUND 120,000 drivers are unaware of penalty point regulation­s for tyres, a survey has revealed.

The Society Of The Irish Motor Industry found 6% of motorists are at risk of penalties and failing their NCT.

Tom Dennigan, from Continenta­l Tyres Ireland, advised drivers to learn about wheel safety and performanc­e.

He said: “It is heartening to see 94% of respondent­s are aware of the tyrerelate­d penalty point regime introduced nearly three years ago.

“All motorists really need to get the message: you can get penalty points if you do not look after tyres.” A FIRST Dates Ireland star who has cerebral palsy said appearing on the show gave him a huge confidence boost in his quest for love.

Dubliner Dan Airey, who has cerebral palsy, is one of the singletons trying to find a partner in tonight’s episode of the hit RTE matchmakin­g series.

The media student, 21, who was set up with 22-year-old Rachel, said appearing on First Dates has given him a “huge confidence boost”.

Dan told the Irish Mirror: “I was unsure whether to apply for it at the beginning. I was debating with myself, should I or shouldn’t I?

“There’s been a few times before where I’ve talked myself out of doing something, not done it and regretted it afterwards.

“So I thought, let’s do this and see
