- BY AILBHE DALY

Construction site THE number of homes built in 2018 remained well below target, experts said yesterday.

An extra 3,665 properties were constructed compared to 2017, but it was still 1,928 fewer than had been hoped.

Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers chief Pat Davitt said: “Apartments are at a very low 13% of the 18,072 new dwelling completions for 2018.

“More apartments are needed in the cities in particular where demand is greatest and affordability is an issue.”

The Central Statistics Office report revealed Dublin and the Mid-east made up 60% of all new dwelling completions last year.
