rally at our lady of lourdes name change

- BY FERGHAL BLANEY Political Correspondent

PEOPLE from Louth took their protest over the proposed name change of Our Lady Of Lourdes Hospital to the Dail yesterday.

The site will lose its religious title and be replaced with something more secular such as Drogheda General Hospital or University Hospital Drogheda.

The town’s Mayor Frank Godfrey is one of the campaign group’s leaders and said locals are “proud” of what the site is called.

He added: “Some of the faceless bureaucrats of the HSE came up with the idea to change the name of Lourdes Hospital which has been in existence since 1950.

“We’re very proud of Lourdes Hospital.

“We don’t know why they want to change it and the cost of it could run into millions.”
