Horror blaze kills 10 at kid football club
Outside club TEN young footballers died yesterday in a blaze at one of Brazil’s top clubs.
The fire raged through an accommodation block at the training complex of Flamengo in Rio de Janeiro.
One player said the blaze started in his room when the air conditioner caught light. He said: “Thank God I managed to run and I’m still alive.”
The 10 dead and three injured were aged between 14 and 16. Fire chief Douglas Henaut said: “The place was completely overtaken by fire. We only found bodies inside.”
Brazilian soccer Ronaldhino offered condolences for “terrible tragedy”.
